Frequently Asked Questions
Are you gas registered? Yes and feel free to check on the Gas Safe Register. It is illegal to work on any gas appliance without being registered on the ‘Gas Safe Register’ AND qualified to do so. Always check that any engineer is qualified to do so by checking for the appropriate appliance on their gas safe card. E.G. An engineer could be registered to work on boilers but not fires. Are you a CORGI Gas Engineer? Gas Safe Register replaced CORGI as the gas registration body in Great Britain and Isle of Man on 1 April 2009 and Northern Ireland and Guernsey on 1 April 2010. Are you VAT registered? We are not VAT registered, so no VAT will be added to your bill. Why is it important to have my boiler / gas fire serviced? Unless you are a landlord it is not a legal requirement to have your boiler or your gas fire serviced. It is however highly advisable not only to maintain efficiency but ensure it is safe as certain issues such as soot build up, ventilation and carbon monoxide emissions may only be identified during a service. As a landlord do all my rented properties need a gas safety check? All rented properties must have annual gas safety checks. This is a legal requirement and is to be done without excuse or you are breaking the law, as you will be potentially risking the safety of your tenants. Where should I put my boiler or which type to choose? RB Plumbing & Gas Services will visit you at a time that is suitable for you. We will discuss your requirements and give you honest advice. |
How long will it take to install my boiler and will there be any mess? The time taken to install a new boiler system depends on the requirements. However on average it can take around 2-4 days. Your home will be left clean and tidy. Will I receive certification for my gas installation? Yes. Each time a gas boiler or fire is installed we will arrange for a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate to be sent directly to you. The Building Regulations in England and Wales make it a legal requirement for the appropriate Local Authority (LA) to be informed about the installation of a heat producing gas appliance e.g. boiler or fire. A certificate can be arranged for a cooker but this is not a requirement. It is important to keep this certificate as it may be needed if you sell your home or if you choose to remortgage. The certificate belongs with the property so if you sell your home then the certificate will need to be passed on to the next owner. Can you organise a joiner, plasterer, electrician etc if needed? Yes we can organise the job from start to finish. We work with a number of tried, tested and trusted builders, joiners, plasterers, decorators and electricians. Do you employ or organise a separate tiler when installing a bathroom? No. We are fully experienced in tiling (floor and walls) and aqua panelling. Therefore there is no delay or disruption in the installation. How long does it to take to install my bathroom? The time taken depends on the requirements. However on average it can take 2 people around 5-6 days to remove current bathroom, alter pipe work, install new radiator, tile all walls / floor and install new suite including shower. |
